How Jonathan could not care less about Ogoniland – Amaechi

– Transport minister Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has slammed Goodluck Jonathan

– He criticizes the former president for ignoring the plight of Ogoniland local residents

– The oil rich region has been blighted by ecological disaster and is home to many Delta militants

The current transport minister and former Governor of Rivers state Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has said that immediate former president Goodluck Jonathan has always had deaf ears to the plight of the Ogoni people and the Niger Delta region in general, the Daily Post has reported.

Amaechi, who made his comments while giving an address to mark the implementation of the UNEC report on Ogoniland, lamented that he did everything within his power while he was governor to make Jonathan implement the UNEC report on Ogoniland.

Rotimi Amaechi has presented himself as a staunch Buhari loyalist of late
“We did everything possible as a sitting government to make the president implement the UNEC report, everything. But the report was not implemented after all,” the transport minister said.

Amaechi noted that the clean up exercise, which is expected to cost Nigeria at least $1 billion, will create jobs for the local inhabitants of the blighted region.

Amaechi then thanked the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration for finally coming to the aid of the Ogoni people and for fulfilling part of his campaign promises of cleaning up the region.
